I didn’t get our usual Thursday update posted this week, but I have quite a few pictures from the week I wanted to post while the memories surrounding them are still fresh in my mind. We had a great end to last week, taking advantage of the last bit of August to cross a few things off our summer fun list, and the weekend was filled with memorable experiences, too. We paid a quick visit to some beekeeper friends at their little farm in the country, something we’ve wanted to do since we met them a year ago. On the weekend, we savored some of the final days of the neighborhood pool’s season, went to a neighboring city’s labor day festival, and did a little apple (and peach, and blackberry!) picking.
Tuesday marked the start of our school year, though I use that term loosely. The kids and I started following a routine that involves some time in the classroom each day, though I have not been too worried about the exact time that this happens, for how long, or any other details really. We’re just starting the work of settling into a new rhythm and getting a sense of what kinks we need to work out in our routine before school officially starts, and we have a real schedule to follow.
Not a ton is new with any of us, really. Elliot is babbling constantly, and we’re picking up on a few more words from him, like “no,” “yeah,” and “done.” He’s super into routines and processes right now, as well as dancing, twirling, and giving high fives. His enthusiasm and joyful nature bubble over, making it near impossible to be mad or stressed for any length of time.
Annabelle has become incredibly resourceful and independent. Every time I turn around she’s into something new – helping herself to the tools she needs to make whatever strikes her fancy in the kitchen, finding art and craft supplies I forgot we had, or repurposing things to make something new. Her independence blows me away. She seems to be at the height of the half year disequilibrium, with very intense emotions – from joy to anger and everything in between.
As for me, I’m currently focused on trying to establish new routines to get us back on track after our half busy half lazy summer, and help everyone prepare for the full fledged version of our school year. I can’t wait to give you a tour and bring you all in on what we’re doing!
I have the second giveaway in our back to school series coming tomorrow, and this week’s update will likely be a photos only post, as we have a very busy week ahead of us, the details of which I’ll share at a later time. For now, I’ll just leave you with some favorite photos from the past week. There will be something other than ramblings about us and giveaways in the near future – I promise! :) In the meantime, I’d love to hear what’s happening with you: have your children started school, or have you changed your routine at home now that many children have?
