What’s New: Photo Update

I’ll stick mostly to photos for today’s update, as I seem to have come down with something (a bad cold during a heat wave is just a cruel joke, don’t you think?) and have used up most of my usual writing time with baths and naps. No complaints there!

Things have been feeling increasingly settled over the past week, and I think Annabelle is feeling it, too. We’re falling into a nice groove and sleep, my patience, and all other things are improving somewhat. Of course Annabelle still does not ever want to sleep, and midway through dinner every evening insists that, “It’s not almost time for bed!” No one has to mention bed, but it’s clear she feels that the time is near and she’s not happy about it.

The birth supplies are gathered and ready to go, which our midwives will confirm tomorrow. I’ll be 38 weeks this weekend, so we’re ready for this baby any time he or she wants to come! The car seat is ready to install, the clothes are washed and hung, and the diapers are folded. Annabelle talks constantly about the baby and the things he or she will or won’t be able to do when they’re born. She’s pretty accurate, so it will be interesting to see how in line her sibling turns out to be with her expectation. I think our decision to leave gender a surprise has confused her pronoun usage even more, as she now talks about “sheorhe” frequently.

Anyway, on to the mamatography photos!

The 4th was a day of extreme sleep deprivation, so we thought it best to skip the fireworks. A bit pathetic on our first holiday in DC, no? We were at least American enough to eat some apple pie!

Since berries tend to retain a lot of pesticide residue and organic was unavailable on Guam, Annabelle has just discovered the joys of fresh berries. She remains skeptical about blackberries.

This silly series is from the weekend when we checked out the boats on the Naval Academy in Annapolis.

Most of this week’s photos seem to involve food. This was a Friday afternoon lunch date in DC.

Somehow this is the only photo I got on this week’s baking day, but it involved a double batch of yogurt, fresh bread, and banana muffins. Yum!

Annabelle thinks my glasses are hilarious.

…and that’s our week. Now tell me about yours! Feel free to share the latest in the comments, or link up with a post of your own.

  • I have come down with an awful cold lately, too, so I feel (some of) your discomfort lately. It’s hard to be sick in the Summertime!

There’s nothing like fresh berries! What did she think of the other kinds? Daniel loves berries and will hardly let us get home from the farmer’s market with any left in our box!

I have a yogurt maker that looks just like yours, only it’s just one level high. It would be so much more efficient to make a double batch all at once! I’ll have to try to see if I can find an add-on for the bottom layer like you have.

I hope you feel better soon. <3

Oh, no! I’m sorry you’ve been sick, too! I hope you’re mostly over it by now :/

So far Annabelle seems to be a fan of all other berries. It took her a couple of tries to warm up to them, but she ate a whole container of raspberries in a matter of minutes the other day! I can’t blame her, or Daniel – I love them, too!

I just recently got the top tier for my yogurt maker and a set of extra jars. It takes so long that it’s great to be able to do a double batch! I bought it from culturesforhealth.com – they have loads of great yogurt/fermented food making stuff there :)

  • I can’t wait to know if Annabelle will have a sister or a brother. Thank you for the photo update all of the photos seem to catch the moments, I especially like the photo with Annabelle wearing your glasses. I hope your feeling better. Thank you for sharing.

    • melissa says:

Thank you! I’m pretty excited to see whether we’re having another girl or a boy, too. Annabelle is quite convinced it’s a girl, so it will be interesting to see whether her prediction is correct, and how she reacts if it isn’t!

  • Else says:

I hope you feel better soon Melissa! Cute pictures of Annabelle and her dad!!! For the birth of your baby: good luck! You are a very strong women, so patient and trustful in nature. Your husband is very humorous and Annabelle is very aware of her surroundings, so you have the best start you can wish for.

    • melissa says:

Thank you, Else! It will be really interesting to see how the three of us end up enjoying the birth experience together. It will be so much different from last time, not only because we’ll be at home, because we are a family of three now. Annabelle seems very excited, but there’s no telling how she’ll respond when the action starts!

      • Else says:

For Annabelle, try to let her help out with things, like giving you frozen grapes or a ball to massage your back. We did that with Bas and I think he was busy looking for all kinds of balls to see which one I liked best for a while.

  • Laura says:

You are on my mind. I don’t know why but I’ve got the feeling the baby will be here very soon.
    Laura

    • melissa says:

Thanks, Laura! I have the same feeling for some reason. I’ll be interested to see if we’re correct. Every twinge gets me more and more excited!

  • Amy says:

I shouldn’t have been reading this while I’m trying to delay lunch! A’s lunch looks delicious! We also had apple pie on the 4th, and I think this is much more American than making it to fireworks.

    • melissa says:

Apple pie is about as American as it gets, huh? ;)

That lunch was delicious! I don’t even want to admit how many times we’ve been to that restaurant since we moved here!

  • I am excited to hear you are getting so close and I think it is very noble to be surprised. We also chose not to know the gender and either way we couldn’t be happier!
