The Joy and the Frustration

I’m joining with Mon as I reflect on the joys of our week along with its difficulties. The goal is not to complain or dedicate energy to the “negative,” but to acknowledge the significant events of the week from a place of understanding that every experience has something it can teach us, whether we see it is as a positive or a negative one.

Frustrations

Nausea, nausea, and more nausea.

Sudden difficulty coping, for both Annabelle and me.

Needing more sleep than usual, and more than I want to make time for.

Misrepresentations and media-created controversy.

A stomach bug and a whole lot of extra laundry.

Tiny starfruit and their beautiful flowers.

Joys

The wiggles and movement that remind me of what’s to come.

Reconnecting, with smoothie dates and stress-melting park visits.

One last chance to enjoy the Department of Agriculture’s beautiful organic farm.

Reminders, and excuses to soak up the island life.

Quiet evenings and time for reading books.

Naps.

ugggh, so sorry to hear about your stomach bug and nausea :(. Get that sleep in Mama, you need it!!! Reconnecting is the best, I cherish each of those moments, even more now that I don’t see them during my days. You know, the wiggles and the dancing is the only thing I miss about pregnancy–what a magical time for you :).

So, I know I have missed much (sorry), but is there a timeline for your island departure? I hear you appreciating all the time you have left there, which makes me think the time to leave is near? After baby comes?

Cheers to you Melissa, my longtime bloggy friend. I hope you have wonderful Mother’s Day…

Thanks, MJ! The stomach bug was Annabelle’s, so I was spared that but of course it was no fun to see her sick.

No need to apologize for missing some things – it has been a very busy time for you! And speaking of busy times, we’re actually leaving before the baby comes, in less than three weeks! Hope you have a wonderful Mother’s Day, too! xoxo

I know all about not wanting to make time for sleep. Even though I know it somehow “makes” more time in that I actually get things done with the renewed energy.

I’m glad you can relate to that piece. Sometimes I feel like everyone else is just shaking their heads at me and my lack of reverence for sleep. Intellectually, I know it’s crucial, but it’s so hard to shut myself down and go to bed! Hope you’re managing to get the rest you need regardless…

oooh, so sorry for the frustrations!
And I’m glad you’re soaking up that island life while you can.
    xoxo

:( sick?! Poor guys. We had that here and it threw our whole game off for way too long and yes all the extra laundry because of it!!! AGGGGHHH!!
Smoothie dates and park visits got some good medicine. Thinking of you as you prep to uproot. Sending you love and peace. xo

    • melissa says:

Thank you, Jess! The extra laundry is about as taxing as the illness itself, I think. Hopefully we’re done with that now. I can take all the love and peace you have to send this way, regardless!

  • Monica says:

i had nausea for 13 weeks ALL day. argh, all for a good thing but man, at the time! lol
glad you’re getting naps in. so vital, and thin on the ground later ;)

  • Melissa, so sorry to hear that you’re still nauseous! Have you tried acupuncture? That was super helpful for me.
Enjoy those bananas and coconuts, oh and pineapple: isn’t that good for nausea?

    • melissa says:

Thanks, Rachel. Fortunately the nausea passed during the second trimester, but it seems to have returned! I don’t think we have an acupuncturist on island, but then I have never confirmed that. I’ll have to look into it! I had never heard that pineapple helped nausea, but now that I know that, I’ll gladly use it as en excuse to eat more than my fair share! I had thought to switch to an all mango and avocado diet for our last couple of weeks here, as those are both newly in season and outrageously delicious – perhaps I can diversify a bit ;) I’m just kidding of course, but only sort of.
